A few years ago I began praying and studying The Rule of the Fellowship of Saint John. After a few months of study, I committed to live the Rule for a period of six months as a Probationer. After 18 months of putting the Rule into practice, I was admitted as a member into the Fellowship of Saint John in January 2015 during a retreat to the Society of Saint John the Evangelist, an Episcopal Monastery in Cambridge, MA. As a Fellow, I support the Brothers’ life and ministries with prayers, encouragement and financial gifts. Together we form an extended family, a company of friends abiding in Christ and seeking to bear a united witness to him as "the Way, the Truth and the Life," following the example of the Beloved Disciple.
Yesterday on Ash Wednesday the Brothers introduced their 2016 Lenten Series: Growing a Rule of Life. This series focuses on God as the Chief Gardener of our soul as we seek out ways to grow into the fullness God desires for us.
For me, creating a personal Rule of Life is important as it keeps me balanced and focused on God and helps me to live out my faith. Throughout the year, I return to the Rule of Life of the Society of Saint John the Evangelist, to reset my attention and efforts on what is really important.
This Lenten series began yesterday and you can download a copy of the workbook. Here’s a 4-minute introductory video with Br. Curtis who asks, “How could a Rule of Life be helpful to you right now?”
