Today’s Question: Where do you see God in your relationships?

In my prayer journal today, I underlined the first verse of Scripture (1 John 4:11), “Beloved, since God loved us so much, we also ought to love one another.”

My favorite Scripture verse is John 13:35: “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

As I think about my desire to be an ever-increasing disciple of Christ, I believe that these two verses are entwined. First I accept God’s magnificent love for me and in following Jesus’ example, I go out and love others. But it doesn’t stop there. When I am out “loving others” with words (like thank yous) or deeds, my hope is that everyone will recognize me as a disciple of Christ. It shouldn’t be in a boasting, “look at me!” type of manner, but instead the quiet approach that God takes with us, nurturing us with meaningful work and bringing “Christ surrogate” people into our paths to be loved by us with the love of Christ.

Just as I tell God, “thank you” each morning and night, I need to tell others thank you for their nourishing friendships and encouraging words.
