Strength, Encouragement, Comfort

Agatha Nolen May 8, 2015

The Rev. Dr. Kristine Blaess met with our healing prayer ministry team this week as we planned our Healing Prayer Workshop for October 2015 and welcomed new members to our ministry.

Kristine started our discussion reading Chapter 14:1-3 from 1 Corinthians: “Follow the way of love and eagerly desire gifts of the Spirit especially prophecy.  For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people but to God. Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries by the Spirit. But the one who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening, encouraging and comfort.”

Kristine continued that God wants us to be bold in using our spiritual gifts, and healing is one of them that Paul mentions in his letters. She explained that a prophet must be open to hearing the words of the Lord and communicating to others. She reminded us that when we are actively praying for someone, we need to remember to listen. We need to listen both to the person who has come forward, but also to what God is speaking to us for them.

Kristine emphasized that it is not the time to be critical or judgmental. Although there are times when Christians do need to have honest discussions with each other, during healing prayer is not the time. Instead we are reminded that God is speaking through us to strengthen, encourage and comfort the other person.

In John 14:12 we hear, “Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.”

Jesus healed, and if we believe in Him, we will do even greater things.

Blessings,
Agatha
