This Wednesday is Ash Wednesday which starts the six-week season of Lent. This year, I won’t be giving up chocolate or wine; instead I plan to follow some daily practices that will help me go deeper into my faith.
I’m following the SIGNS OF LIFE: WHY CHURCH MATTERS with the Brothers of the Society of Saint John the Evangelist, an Episcopal monastery in Cambridge, MA. The study was developed with the Department of Lifelong Learning at Virginia Theological Seminary and encourages us to worship, pray, learn, turn, bless, go, and rest as we follow the Way of Love.
We are asked to imagine the depth of what we will discover during this Lenten season both in ourselves and in others as we walk the Way of Love.
During this week, we are encouraged to consider:
February 26 Ash Wednesday TURN: Pray for the strength to observe a holy Lent
February 27 Thursday BLESS: Invite someone to something life-giving. Maybe it’s church.
February 28 Friday GO: Ask God to help you see the world the way God sees the world.
February 29 Saturday REST: Praise God for your life—through words or by doing something that
brings you joy
March 1 Sunday WORSHIP: Watch the Video (15:51)- SIGNS OF LIFE: LIGHT
The video has conversations among the Brothers of St. John the Evangelist. Then, answer your own question, “Where is the light in my life?”
If you are in the Middle Tennessee area, join us for Coffee and Conversation on Saturday morning (2/29) from 8-9AM at 8th and Roast at 42nd and Charlotte Pike in Nashville. We’ll talk about our plans for Lenten observation and how our conversations can help to shape the world.
Blessings, my friend,
Agatha
