Signs
¡Hola! ¿Cómo está usted? For the sixth time in four weeks, I was asked again today if I “speak Spanish”. Most of the inquiries have been from people I have just met regarding going on a mission trip to a Latin American country.
I know very limited Spanish from my ten years in San Antonio, but after the third question a few weeks ago, I signed up for an on-line language Spanish class with Mango Languages through my work. I’ve made it through the first 25 lessons, and I’m remembering fondly my time in San Antonio.
Last week I asked God, “Why don’t you just write down on a piece of paper what mission trip you want me to go on and the dates? That way I can better prepare and target my language classes to be ready to go. Will it be in the Spring, Summer or Fall of 2014?”
It seems like it would be a lot easier if God would speak with us directly, giving us specific commands and deadlines. Many of us are eager to serve God, but we’re just not confident with what he wants us to do. It would be helpful if He gave us clear instructions.
But His answer to my question was more telling: “No, my child, I’m not going to tell you exactly what Latin American country you will be going to or when. But you are right to begin studying Spanish. If I told you exact information, you would quit looking for signs from me and you would miss a lot of beauty in your world, as well as other things that I want to share with you. I want you to keep looking for my “signs” and you will find the answers to your questions.”
I’m content to continue to be in awe of my world, always attentive to a new sign from God. It’s actually more exciting than just receiving the final instructions.
I pray that you will continue to be open to signs from God and not be impatient in waiting for his instructions in your life.
Blessings, my friend,
Agatha
