On Receiving
In Acts 20:35 we are reminded: ”In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”
In following Christ, we are always encouraged to help the weak and the poor, as we might see Christ in them. Last week I was reminded that it is really a two-way street; sometimes we are blessed to be the giver and at other times we are blessed to allow others to help us, to be the receiver.
My plans were waylaid last week when my hip replacement surgery was cancelled due to a severe case of the flu. I’d scheduled it months ago after intermittent pain for years, but it was definitely not to be.
I am grateful for all the texts, calls and cards and offers of food from friends who called to check on me knowing that I would be disappointed with a postponed surgery. One friend even sent a beautiful bouquet of flowers to brighten my week.
I always feel blessed when helping others, but this time I was specially blessed to be on the receiving end of Christ’s love.
Blessings, my friend,
Agatha
