Lenten Self-Examination

Today is Ash Wednesday, marking the Lenten season as we remember Jesus’ 40 days of fasting and temptation in the desert. I’ll receive ashes this morning to remind me that “to dust I will return”.

Rosary Beads from Unspoken Elements

Instead of “giving up” a pleasure this year such as wine or chocolate, I’m going to use Anglican Rosary Beads to allow me to pause each day in self-examination.

The Anglican Rosary is comprised of 33 beads, one for each year of Jesus’ life on earth and unlike the Roman Catholic Rosary, there are no set prayers. I’ve selected some favorite prayers from the Book of Common Prayer along with the “Jesus Prayer” to help me in my meditation.

I’ve attached links below to the prayer list I’m using as well as an 8:00 minute podcast I recorded of my rosary prayers.

How will you prepare yourself this year for the Lord’s passion and resurrection? Will you give up a favorite food to strengthen your self-denial, or will you give up some of your time for self-reflection and meditating on God’s word?

Whatever your choice, I wish you rest and relaxation for this Lenten season.
