Every day is filled with thousands of choices. Some are minor like when to change lanes on the way to work, and others are major, like taking a new job, or accepting a marriage proposal. We make decisions based upon the facts available, but it is still our free will that determines our final answer.

This past weekend between Good Friday and Easter morning I was reflecting on the choices that Jesus made. I am a world-class sinner. Jesus could have looked at the facts, decided I wasn’t worthy, and used His divine power to save himself from crucifixion. Instead, he CHOSE to die for me, acting divine and obeying His Father.

As I go throughout these 50 days of Easter, I plan to look at my life differently, and for each decision, ask, “Am I choosing to follow God’s will in my life?” I probably won’t be asked to give up my life for someone during these next 50 days, but I can move closer to God with the intentional choices I make.

Jesus has also taught me to withdraw and pray for wisdom. We read that when Jesus went to the Mount of Olives before his arrest, He withdrew “about a stone’s throw away, knelt down and prayed, ‘Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.’”

Even small decisions have consequences, and I’ve learned to pray before every fork in the road.
