Change

Cape of Good Hope, South Africa

About eight weeks ago, I felt the winds of change blowing again. I don’t know what aspect of my life will undergo some upheaval, but I’m convinced that changes are coming.

Some change is inevitable when children go off to college or marry into a new family. Changes that are unanticipated cause the most anxiety. When we plan for a promotion and get it, the added work isn’t unpleasant. If we leave a job for another one or retirement, it’s a much better change than if we are fired. I suspect that it is easier being the one filing for a divorce than the one who is being divorced.

Sometimes we long for change, but none occurs. We go back to school to complete a degree but we don’t get the job we long for. We pray for a spouse to be relieved from an addiction, or to be a more engaged parent, but it doesn’t happen.

We worry when change occurs, and we worry when it doesn’t.

I have friends and in-laws who have undergone tremendous changes lately with perilous health problems and the loss of loved ones. They can’t control what happens but they have all been resolute in trusting God through the changes in their lives.

Philippians 4:6-7: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

I plan to let God guard my heart and mind, no matter what tomorrow brings.

Blessings, my friend,
Agatha
